After moving around like a nomad for the past year, I've finally settled back in the UK. I was actually quite disappointed to leave Norway, but as always all good things have to come to an end.
In hindsight, I was quite relieved to return back to the UK as it meant that life was more-or-less heading back to normal. Moving to other countries and living out of a suitcase with no fixed address is NOT normal. And now that I'm back in the UK, where I feel I belong, I'm hoping that I won't have to relocate to another country for a long period of time. I don't mind travelling for work, but relocation for 3 months or more is very difficult and not something I'd want to do again - after all I've relocated 5 times in under 3 years.
The big question was whether I should move back to Reading or try living in London. After a lot of thinking, I chose Reading because I felt it would be better for my running. And it turned out to be the correct decision. Immediately after finding my own place to live I joined the local running club, Reading Roadrunners. And I've also registered for parkrun which is a free timed 5km run that is held every Saturday. Hopefully I will see improvements in my running now that I'm part of this environment.
I'm very happy that I found a nice 1-bedroom flat close to the Reading town centre. Because of its location, I can walk to work and not be dependent on public transport like in previous times when I lived in Reading. I can also walk to the running club AND walk to parkrun (actually I jog but it's walking distance and the time to jog there is only about 10 minutes, so it's a good warm up). They say location is everything, and when I was looking for a place I had that in the forefront of my mind. In addition, it's alongside the canal, which, when the swans and ducks are around, is a great sight to see!
With the current work situation, I don't see myself having to move to another country for work. I think I'll be hanging around in Reading for quite a while longer. Perfect!
To close this entry, the title of this blog post was inspired by DEEN, a long-running popular music group in Japan, with their track, also titled Starting Over. Having closed yet another chapter in my OE and starting an entirely different one, I feel like I have been doing just that.
