My running heroes are Usain Bolt and Paula Radcliffe, where the two combine raw speed and power in the 100 metres and controlled efficiency in the marathon. But recently I gained a new sporting hero.
One of the things I got an appreciation for while I was in Norway was cross country skiing. The physical demands in cross country skiing are not too dissimilar to running, whether it'd be long or middle distance. And what better way to make the sport more attractive and popular to people that don't come from a winter sports background or country without a huge participation in it, than to have a very gorgeous-looking lady winning a gold medal at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo this year!

Well, ladies and gentlemen (but mostly for gentlemen) it gives me great pleasure to write this post about this very gorgeous-looking lady, Therese Johaug.
You have to agree that Therese epitomises that famous blond Scandinavian look that everyone sees in today's media. Just live in a Scandinavian country for 8 months like me and you'll see what I mean.
I was lucky to see Therese Johaug in the flesh, having attended the medal ceremony at Oslo's University Square. Like any star-struck fan, I wanted to meet her but unfortunately the security minders were too tough to elude. Here is a picture of her at the medal ceremony winning the gold medal in the Women's 30 kilometre freestyle in cross country skiing.

Therese is still quite young compared to her more decorated compatriot, cross country skiing queen, Marit Bjørgen. However Therese's unexpected victory over Marit, who took silver, has quickly or probably unofficially made her the princess of cross country skiing. After the awarding of medals, Therese, Marit and two of their team mates dressed up like royalty.
The video version of the above picture can be seen here, complete with her victory race at the games coupled with an a-ha soundtrack.
Here's a funny video of her playing truth or dare on TV. All in Norsk but there are subtitles too. The best bit is at the end when she calls out Marit on national TV!
And finally, my mate in Norway sent me this one, showing her modelling debut. Suffice to say, she'd make it as a model as well as a sports star! Not so big on the brown cheese though.
Looks, athleticism, intelligence - she's a winner!
